| What a Weekend!Thank You for Making the 2026 MACRI Symposium Unforgettable | |
The 2026 MACRI Symposium was more than an event—it was a powerful reminder of what happens when people come together to engage with history, confront contemporary challenges, and imagine a stronger future. Over two inspiring days, over four hundred attendees joined us in person and online for conversations about civil rights, civic engagement, representation, journalism, democracy, and the issues shaping Latino communities today. Together, we explored the power of storytelling, the importance of accurate representation, and the responsibility we all share in strengthening our democracy. We extend our deepest gratitude to our extraordinary speakers, whose expertise, courage, and insight made this year's symposium so meaningful. Thank you to Carmen Perez-Jordan, Rochelle Garza, Mark Hugo Lopez, Henry Jiménez, Nadege Souvenir, Congressman Joaquin Castro, Cristela Alonzo, Josefina López, and our emcee Elaine Ayala for sharing your time, knowledge, and vision with our audience.

We are equally grateful to our generous sponsors whose support made this event possible, as well as our partners at Texas Public Radio for hosting and helping bring these important conversations to audiences across the country.
A special thank you goes to the volunteers, staff members, board members, and community supporters who worked behind the scenes to welcome guests, coordinate logistics, and ensure every detail came together seamlessly. Events like this are only possible because of the dedication of people who believe deeply in MACRI's mission.

If you were unable to attend—or if you'd like to revisit your favorite sessions—you can now watch symposium recordings on our YouTube channel. We encourage you to share them with friends, family, colleagues, and anyone interested in understanding the past and present of Mexican American civil rights.

As we reflect on the conversations from this year's symposium, one message stands out clearly: history matters. Understanding the struggles, achievements, and experiences of those who came before us helps us better navigate the challenges of today and build a more inclusive future. That work doesn't end when the symposium concludes. Every day, MACRI is preserving Mexican American civil rights history, creating educational programs, developing exhibitions, collecting oral histories, and working toward the creation of the nation's first Mexican American civil rights history museum. Through this work, we seek to inspire people of all ages to see themselves as active participants in our democracy. If you enjoyed the Symposium and would like to see more powerful programs like this one, please consider becoming a monthly donor. Monthly support provides the reliable funding that allows us to expand our educational programs, preserve important stories, and bring history to communities across the country.
Together, we can ensure that these stories are preserved, shared, and used to inspire future generations.

Thank you for being part of the MACRI community. We look forward to seeing you at a future MACRI program. With gratitude, Equipo MACRI |
