F.      Speaker & topic of the day: David Montejano, Professor Emeritus of the University of California, Berkeley, moderated by Ruben Barrera: Why Our History Matters  
Mr. David Montejano is a distinguished sociologist and historian whose work has shaped contemporary understanding of Mexican American history, racial power, and community change. A San Antonio native, he earned his B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Yale University. His major works include Anglos and Mexicans in the Making of Texas, 1836–1986; Chicano Politics and Society in the Late Twentieth Century; Quixote’s Soldiers; and Sancho’s Journal. His scholarship has been recognized with the Frederick Jackson Turner Award, multiple T. R. Fehrenbach Awards, and induction into the Texas Institute of Letters. Montejano has held faculty appointments at UT Austin, UC Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz, and the University of New Mexico.
