Nuestra Palabra is thrilled to announce its first annual Houston Text Fest, which will revolutionize book fests, Saturday, October 17, 2026. This expands NP’s mission and allows us to serve more writers, showcase more genres, and reach more people. The Houston Text Fest will celebrate Lit in all of its forms with three tracks of programming in English and Spanish: 1. Fine Arts 2. Cool Day Jobs, and 3: Robot Poets: U.&.AI. And more, always mas. Stay tuned for more announcements and for ways to get involved.

LUPE MENDEZ: WE EXIST IN THE WHISPER

Nuestra Palabra presents the next Civil Rights Series event featuring Lupe Mendez and his new book We Exist in the Whisper: Huelga School Verses. Through poetry and history, the book explores the 1970s student walkouts that led Mexican-American communities in Houston to create their own “huelga schools” in response to segregation policies. The event includes voices from those who lived this history, offering a powerful, firsthand perspective on education, resistance, and the fight for equality. Free admission.
