Ahead of the Senate’s recent vote-a-rama, United We Dream joined more than 160 other organizations in a letter urging lawmakers to reject funneling $140 billion more taxpayer dollars into deadly immigration enforcement operations for the next three years, without going through the regular appropriations process. We called for a pathway to citizenship as the economically smart and morally just solution Americans overwhelmingly support.
Instead of spending billions on the current mass deportation and detention policies that are tearing the fabric of this nation to shreds — ripping teachers out of classrooms, disappearing servicemembers’ spouses, separating families, raiding church pews, and shuttering small businesses — we’re asking Congress to finally resolve the issue by creating a viable path to citizenship.
Creating an opportunity for immigrants to come forward, pass a background check, and apply for lawful permanent residency, ultimately becoming naturalized citizens, is the solution policymakers should focus on. An agenda for an affirmative vision calls for bold, permanent protections that are immune to policy whiplash.
Citizenship is the gold standard for protection for those who already call America home.
Together we can achieve that, and build a vibrant and diverse economy that works for all, not just the billionaires and those cruelly profiting from the pain and suffering of immigrants.

As immigrants and workers who power this country, we fight to shut down bills that only offer breadcrumbs and instead pass tangible, genuine, and popular solutions.
Thank you for working to help us achieve that goal.
