K-8 Curriculum and Instruction: Bilingual Language Arts/Literacy

Qualifications--
Required:
A doctorate with expertise in literacy
(reading/writing/language arts) or a related field. Knowledge of public school
K-8 language arts curricula, instructional strategies, and assessment models.
Knowledge of CCSS and California ELD standards. Experience teaching literacy in
one or more educational settings. Demonstrated potential for scholarly
activity, including grant writing (evidence of publications and/or grants for
those seeking to be considered at the associate professor level). Awareness of
and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population
evidenced by cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable
experience.
Preferred:Preference will be given to candidates who
demonstrate expertise in one or more of the following areas: Bilingualism and
biliteracy in Spanish and English; proficiency in one or more languages other
than English or Spanish represented in our service area (e.g., Mandarin or
Vietnamese); teaching/working in or with K-8 schools characterized by cultural
and linguistic diversity, especially in a bilingual Spanish-English
environment; early literacy teaching; Reading Recovery; California
Reading/Language Arts Specialist Credential; literacy assessment; technology to
enhance teaching and learning; second language acquisition and meeting the
needs of second language learners; differentiation and using a range of
pedagogical strategies to support culturally, academically, and linguistically
diverse student populations; expertise and/or experience in providing services
to students with special learning needs (e.g., Special Education credential,
RtI, etc.),school-university partnerships and/or providing professional
development to K-8 teachers in literacy, assessment, and/or instructing second
language learners; literacy in the content areas/literacy across the
curriculum, particularly related to STEM; NGSS and SBA; teaching a wide range
of courses in pre-service and MA programs; program coordination; and K-8 core
(language arts, social studies, mathematics, science) and/or a K-12 subject
area (e.g., history/social studies, art, music, physical education, etc.).
Responsibilities: Teach
graduate-level literacy-related courses in the following
programs: Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, MA (Curriculum and Instruction),
and Reading and Literacy Leadership Specialist Credential (RSC). Coordinate the
RSC program.Supervise MA students’ research projects and/or student teachers.
Serve on department, college, and/or university committees. Contribute to
program and curriculum development. Maintain an active and productive research
agenda.
Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Starting Date: August 18, 2015
Eligibility: Employment is contingent upon proof of eligibility to work in the United
States.
