Press release

Exhibit of the Youth Mural “Grandpa Was Bracero” During the Central Valley immigrant’s event: “Coleadero Colonia Madero de Apozol Zacatecas” on Cutler CA The Club Colonia Apozol and the Braceros Association will exhibit the youth mural by Families of the aging former braceros, many of whom now live in the San Joaquin Valley.

The Asociacion de Braceros celebrates the economic and cultural contributions made by the millions of Mexican who were brought to the USA under the Bracero Program (1942-1964) to work in this country’s fields, orchards, and railroad. The first group of migrant workers (1,500) arrived to Stockton on September 29, 1942 and immediately began working in the farming fields of the San Joaquin County. The braceros alleviated a critical labor shortage brought by the advent of World War II; they made a great contribution to California and the entire country’s wealth and prosperity.

The mural is to acknowledge, honor and thank them for such contribution!
