Department Chair
The Department of Teacher Education, Educational
Leadership, and Policy
(TEELP) at the UNM College of Education, invites
applications, expressions of interest, and nominations for the position of
Department Chair. The Department Chair
will hold a full-time, tenured faculty appointment at the rank of
Professor. The position may commence as
early as July, 2015, but
shall remain open until filled.
The UNM College of Education, comprised of five academic
departments, is a future-oriented, dynamic professional school organized to
reflect the following values: Advocacy, Building Professional Identities,
Collaboration, building strong School/University Partnerships, Diversity &
Social Justice, Interdisciplinary Inquiry/Scholarship, and Teaching and
Learning. The Department is the largest in the College with the
uniqueness of having teacher education and educational leadership faculty
addressing K-12 and higher education needs together as an academic unit. The Department has both undergraduate and graduate programs.
The Department Chair provides leadership and long-term
planning with directing the academic, operational, and budgetary activities of
the
Department. The
Department Chair is expected to foster creative and deliberative processes among the department’s faculty to
advance the vision and mission of the academic unit’s future to meet the
demands of outside constituencies in the preparation of teachers and
educational leaders. The Chair must
demonstrate respect for differences in faculty experience and interest, plus
value community engagement and advocate for New Mexico communities, students,
and families.
The successful candidate will have a strong record of
scholarly achievement in the field of education as it pertains to K-12
schooling and higher education. The
minimum requirements are:
· Doctorate
in education or closely related field
· Earned
rank of Full Professor or eligible for rank of FullProfessor by meeting UNM’s criteria
· 3 years of K-12 teaching experience
· 3 years of college teaching experience
· 3 years of education-related leadership experience.
Preferred qualifications are:
· More than 3 years of PK-20 teaching experience
· Well established scholarship and publications related to education
· Demonstrated ability to foster and develop the scholarship of
others
· Demonstrated ability to sustain a positive and productive academic work environment
· Experience implementing accreditation and outcomes assessment at
the college level
· Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and
graduate level
· Demonstrated ability to work with diverse faculty, students, and
constituents
· Experience working with a variety of constituent groups including community and government
· Evidence of successful outcomes achieved through
cross-disciplinary collaborations
· Evidence of administrative competency
· Evidence of ability to secure and manage resources
Demonstrated knowledge of educational policy
· Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and
student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
Screening of applications will begin November 17, 2014,
and will continue until the position is filled.
