United We Dream - We will not stay silent

Bernardo,

In our ongoing series this month, we’ll explain, point by point, the threats DACA recipients are currently facing.

Here are the words of one DACA recipient, whose brother — also a DACA recipient — has been detained since November1“I’ve been so nervous, to be honest with you, even with my DACA that I have right now that came in the mail a month and a half ago. I just feel like I’m not safe like I used to, that at any time they could come and take it away from me, and then I have nowhere else to go.”

DACA was meant to protect immigrant youth from detention and deportation. But the administration is trying to undermine DACA by urging DACA recipients to self-deport, and actively ignoring the protections from detention and deportation that DACA guarantees. What’s more, there has been specific targeting of DACA recipients in enforcement actions.

Federal immigration agencies have launched targeted operations to arrest and detain DACA recipients who have valid status. In addition, there are news reports of TSA providing travel information directly to enforcement agencies, which have used the information to target immigrants at airports, including immigrant college students traveling domestically.2

Additionally, the administration has indefinitely halted all immigration applications from 39 countries3 — including DACA renewals for more than 3,280 recipients. That means their legal status can lapse, making them even more vulnerable to detention and deportation.

DACA recipients — our coworkers, friends, neighbors, and classmates — are continuing to be detained and cruelly separated from their families. We will not stop pressuring lawmakers to deliver permanent protections to the hundreds of thousands of DACA recipients who power our economy and country.

We need your help fueling our advocacy efforts. Can you make a donation to United We Dream today? Your support helps us organize, educate, and demand permanent protections for DACA recipients and all undocumented people in the U.S.

In the face of these challenges, we know that the power for real change rests with us — the people. We know that the strength and resilience of our communities can create a future where we can all thrive.

We’re here, we’re organizing, and we’re facing this moment together.
