Native Organizers Alliance - Healthcare, not warfare

Patricia,

Healthcare is a human right. For Native peoples it is also a right guaranteed by our treaties.

But, after cutting more than $1 trillion from our healthcare in last year's Big Brutal Bill, congressional Republicans are considering doing it again -- this time to fund Trump's war on Iran:

Send a message to Congress now telling them that we demand healthcare, not warfare!

SIGN AND SEND

When Congress cuts healthcare, it violates our treaty rights. These cuts also disproportionately impact Native communities where reservations have been systematically excluded from sustainable economic development, leading to generational unemployment. As a result, a higher percentage of Native peoples rely on Medicaid than the general population.

It’s estimated that last year's new restrictions on Medicaid benefits will negatively impact 700,000 Natives, including 60% of all Native children and two out of every five elders. At the same time, Indian Health Services (IHS) continues to be chronically underfunded, meaning there is still much work to be done to ensure adequate healthcare to Native peoples.

When there is a push for war, there always seems to be enough funding. But when our communities need access to affordable healthcare and community infrastructure, we’re told there isn’t enough.

This week, the House of Representatives failed to pass legislation to limit U.S. involvement in the war on Iran -- by only one vote! In the Senate, a new high of 85% of Democrats voted to block specific weapons shipments to Israel’s military, but the bills did not pass.

Despite record numbers of U.S. Representatives and Senators taking anti-war action, the recent wars on Iran and Lebanon will continue.

We’re getting closer, building power and pressure on the U.S. government. But with budget negotiations underway, we need to keep speaking up and demanding our tax dollars fund human needs globally rather than war crimes.

We're demanding healthcare, not warfare! Send a message to your members of Congress now.

Hawwih (thank you) for everything you do for the right to health and well-being for all of our communities.
