Patricia,
The Native Organizers Alliance defends public lands, which are ancestral Indigenous homelands.
We’ve worked with a coalition for years to protect Chaco Culture National Historical Park, a sacred place and UNESCO World Heritage Site, from oil and gas exploitation.
Chaco is culturally and spiritually important for many Tribes, with pre-colonial structures from villages built a thousand years ago -- including burial grounds and ceremonial sites.
It’s very close to numerous Tribal reservations and pueblos in New Mexico, which have already been contaminated by fossil fuel projects for decades.
Now, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) wants to take away recent hard-won protections and expand dirty energy projects on this sacred land.
So we responded. Earlier this month, we directed thousands of public comments to oppose this plan and protect Chaco Canyon.
Even with a very short 7-day public comment window, the BLM reported receiving about 70,000 public comments!
That’s good news about our growing grassroots movement and power. But the work isn’t over: There will be other chances to stop this plan, and continued public pressure matters throughout this process.
We must keep building political power to protect Chaco and other sacred places from destructive governmental and corporate attacks.
Could you donate today to fuel our urgent work to protect Chaco Canyon and other sacred places, and protect the health of Native communities, Mother Earth, and all who depend on her?
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your secure donation will go through immediately:
With your support, the Native Organizers Alliance will continue strengthening movements and support Tribal and Native communities to protect sacred places and ancestral homelands, while working toward environmental justice, human rights for all, and Tribal sovereignty.
Hawwih (“thank you” in Caddo) for being a crucial supporter and participant in this life-affirming work.
