The holiday season is one of the busiest and most exciting times of the year for restaurants. With higher guest volume, special events, and celebrations, preparation is key. A well-informed and motivated staff can make all the difference in delivering great service and creating memorable guest experiences.
1. Be Ready for Higher TrafficThe holidays often mean longer hours, fuller dining rooms, and increased takeout and delivery orders. Staff should be prepared for a faster pace, flexibility, and teamwork to keep operations running smoothly.
2. Know the Holiday Menu and SpecialsMany restaurants offer seasonal dishes, special drinks, or holiday promotions. Make sure all staff members are familiar with the menu items, ingredients, and pricing so they can confidently answer questions and make recommendations.
3. Focus on Exceptional Customer ServiceGuests visit restaurants during the holidays to celebrate and relax. A warm attitude, patience, and friendly service go a long way—especially during busy shifts. Small details can make a big impact.
4. Communication Is KeyClear communication between managers, kitchen staff, and front-of-house teams is essential. Confirm schedules, special events, and responsibilities in advance to avoid confusion during peak times.
5. Maintain Cleanliness and SafetyWith increased traffic, cleanliness and food safety become even more important. Regular handwashing, clean stations, and proper food handling help protect guests and staff alike.
6. Support Each OtherThe holiday rush can be demanding. Helping coworkers, staying positive, and showing appreciation for one another helps reduce stress and keeps morale high.
7. Finish the Year StrongThe holidays are a great opportunity to create lasting impressions. Excellent service and smooth operations can turn seasonal guests into loyal customers for the new year. |

Don't wait, save now - save up to $3,000! |
Do you know about the California Foodservice Instant Rebates Program? If your business is serviced by SoCalGas, Pacific Gas & Electric, or San Diego Gas & Electric, you can get valuable, instant rebates up to $3,000 on qualifying energy-efficient equipment for your business. Learn more at caenergywise.com/instant-rebates.
You can skip the paperwork and receive an instant rebate as a discount directly on your invoice when you purchase qualifying, high-efficiency natural gas or electric commercial foodservice equipment from participating dealers.
Qualifying equipment must be installed at a non-residential site that receives natural gas and/or electricity service from SoCalGas, Pacific Gas & Electric, and/or San Diego Gas & Electric. “Major cooking appliances account for almost 35% of the average restaurant's energy expenditures*.”
Upgrading to high-efficiency equipment uses less natural gas, electricity, and water and can reduce utility costs by as much as 75% compared to standard efficiency equipment. Plus, many energy-saving products produce less heat, which could increase comfort and could decrease your cooling costs.
*Energy consumption for commercial kitchens based on a study by Energy Star(R). Actual savings may vary. |
