LULAC - The National Assembly - Candiates, Amendments, Electronic Voting

The Editor: The Editor presents the candidates he understands are running for national office in the Convention of the National Assembly, the Supreme Authority of LULAC, this coming Saturday, July 21, 2018.  The Voice of the Mainland will not be endorsing candidates for Saturday's elections.

You will note three offices are unopposed.

Base on several conversation I have had, the Editor knows of no slate of candidates being run by any person running for office.  The Editor knows of no endorsements being proffered by any candidate for other candidate/s.

The list of candidates is being re-arranged to eliminate the impression that Domingo Garcia or Darryl Morin are running a slate of candidates.

The Editor suggests that if your name is not listed, please email the Editor at editor@voiceofthemainland.com by 5:00 PM Wednesday, July 18, 2018.

The upper echelon of LULAC is still debating electronic voting.  The electronic voting software is subscribed to by LULAC for $700.00 per year.  LULAC had the Chrome tablets used to run an election with as many as 2,000 delegates.  LULAC has no external costs involved to run elections electronically. Electronic voting has been used by LULAC for three national elections.  It was last used in San Antonio with 400 delegates.  20 tables processed 400 delegates in 45 minutes.  Traditional voting can take up to 5 hours to conduct, with counters for the Election Judge, counters for each candidate, counting row by row or council by council.

Remember, Delegates are the National Assembly, the Supreme Authority of LULAC.  If the conveners of the National Assembly do not propose electronic voting, make a motion and have I voted on.  Simple majority.

Another issue conflicting the National Assembly is the failure of the conveners to present all of the amendments submitted to LULAC for a vote, the way the Constitution dictates.  This year, 22 amendments were presented and only 5 were selected by the Amendments for presentation.

Remember, Delegates are the National Assembly, the Supreme Authority of LULAC.  If the conveners of the National Assembly do not permit the presentation and voting on all of the 22 amendments presented, make a motion and have it voted on.  Simple majority.
