Under this administration, the Department of Homeland Security has removed all mention of trans people from its detention practices, meaning trans women are often detained in wards or sections of detention camps with men, leaving them vulnerable to abuse.1 Trans and queer detainees are approximately fifteen times more likely to be sexually assaulted than others in detention, and many are denied essential hormone treatments or life-saving medical care.2 Others are placed in solitary confinement under the guise of "protective custody," despite the documented risk of irreversible psychological harm. And, for those seeking safety, the path is narrow: being LGBTQ+ is criminalized in over 77 countries, yet asylum remains profoundly difficult to secure. These aren't just statistics; they are the realities of people we love. And when those in our communities are hurting or targeted because of who they are, we have a responsibility to show up, organize, and take care of each other.
