Patricia,
A federal judge just ordered the Department of the Interior (DOI) to reinstate signs and exhibits that were recently censored or removed at national parks across Turtle Island.
This is a win in our years-long efforts to re-Indigenize national parks, including sharing the truth about their history: These lands were stolen from Tribes to create national parks.
We’ve worked with Tribes to help park visitors understand why Tribes have the right to steward these lands and waters as their ancestors did -- and to secure structural reforms of Tribal-federal co-management agreements for national parks and monuments.
This win is only temporary because DOI Secretary Burgum is likely to appeal the judge’s order.
We must keep organizing movements to protect the history of national parks from the erasure of Tribal Nations, and we must stay vigilant in protecting our shared public lands -- especially as the Bureau of Land Management begins a drive to sell or exploit our 245 million acres of federal public lands for profit.
Can you chip in now to power our urgent work to defend our public lands, Mother Earth, and Tribes’ sovereign right to determine the future of their ancestral homelands?
CHIP IN NOWTribes have the inherent and legal right to participate in decisions and approve or disapprove actions or development plans on their homelands—including blocking fossil fuel extraction.
But the federal government has rarely respected Tribes’ inherent and legal sovereign right to be full participants in decision-making about our territories and resources. That’s why the Native Organizers Alliance builds power and movements to galvanize grassroots power to uphold Tribal sovereignty and their other obligations to Tribes.
With your support, we’ve helped secure structural reforms in Tribal-federal co-management agreements that ensure sustainable land and water management for generations to come.
Co-stewardship agreements between Tribal Nations and the federal government also help correct historical wrongs such as violent dispossession, by placing decision-making power back in the hands of Tribal Nations who have connections to national park lands since time immemorial.
Building and strengthening movements to protect ancestral lands and waters also helps end toxic mining and the dominance of fossil fuels, a major pathway toward addressing the public health and climate crises.
Please donate $5 or more today to build the power we need to defend Tribal sovereignty, sacred public lands, and Mother Earth from corporate polluters and governmental attacks.

Hawwih (thank you in Caddo) for being a crucial supporter and participant in this life-affirming work.
We have a responsibility to the lands, waters, and resources that have sustained our families and ancestors. We must push forward to protect Mother Earth and all beings who depend on her.
