We’re excited to share the refreshed new look of the ALMAAHH website! We’ve updated the design and experience to make it easier to explore our programs, opportunities, events, and community initiatives. We also encourage artists to register for the ALMAAHH Artist Census and to regularly check the “Programs” section of the website to stay connected with upcoming opportunities, open calls, and initiatives.

Visioning Session Update/HAPIE Awards Reminder |

During ALMAAHH’s Film Industry Visioning Session, participants described Houston’s Latino film ecosystem as fragmented, yet filled with immense potential. While Houston is home to a growing and talented pool of Latino filmmakers, participants consistently identified a lack of coordinated infrastructure connecting education, funding, production, and audience engagement. The conversation reinforced that the challenge is not a lack of talent, but the need for a stronger and more connected ecosystem to support long-term creative growth.
As part of continuing to uplift and strengthen visibility for Houston’s film community, ALMAAHH is also proud to partner with HTX Producers in support of the HAPIE Awards, which recognize outstanding work across Houston’s film and production industries.
We encourage our community to help elevate and celebrate Latino creatives in film and production by submitting nominations for individuals and projects deserving of recognition.
Final nomination deadline: May 29
To learn more about findings from this and upcoming visioning sessions, follow ALMAAHH on social media for a broader community update coming this fall. Those interested in contributing to the conversation are also encouraged to get involved in future sessions as we continue imagining and building stronger creative ecosystems together.
Durante la Sesión de Visión para la Industria Cinematográfica de ALMAAHH, participantes describieron el ecosistema latino de cine en Houston como fragmentado, pero lleno de potencial. Aunque Houston cuenta con una creciente y talentosa comunidad de cineastas latinos, participantes identificaron consistentemente la falta de una infraestructura coordinada que conecte educación, financiamiento, producción y desarrollo de audiencias. La conversación reafirmó que el desafío no es la falta de talento, sino la necesidad de un ecosistema más fuerte y conectado que apoye el crecimiento creativo a largo plazo.
Como parte de este esfuerzo por fortalecer y dar mayor visibilidad a la comunidad cinematográfica de Houston, ALMAAHH también se enorgullece de colaborar con HTX Producers en apoyo a los HAPIE Awards, que reconocen el trabajo destacado dentro de la industria de cine y producción en Houston.
Invitamos a nuestra comunidad a ayudar a celebrar y visibilizar a creativos latinos en cine y producción enviando nominaciones para personas y proyectos que merecen reconocimiento. Fecha límite final para nominaciones: 29 de mayo

“Rooted in Community” Mural Update and Unveiling |

Join us at Finca Tres Robles for this year’s Salsa de Mayo Festival on May 16 as we celebrate community, culture, music, and the upcoming unveiling of the 2026 Rooted in Community mural by artist Jatziri Barron.
Currently in progress, the mural explores themes of land, connection, and collective care, and will officially be unveiled during the festival alongside a vibrant day of live salsa music, dance performances, local vendors, food, and family-friendly activities.
We also invite the community to join the upcoming Harvest Dinner on Thursday, May 14, continuing Finca Tres Robles’ tradition of gathering through food, culture, and shared experience. We hope to see you there!
Acompáñanos en Finca Tres Robles para el Festival Salsa de Mayo de este año el próximo 16 de mayo, donde celebraremos comunidad, cultura, música y la próxima inauguración del mural 2026 Rooted in Community de la artista Jatziri Barron.
Actualmente en proceso, el mural explora temas de tierra, conexión y cuidado colectivo, y será inaugurado oficialmente durante el festival junto a un vibrante día de música salsa en vivo, presentaciones de danza, vendedores locales, comida y actividades para toda la familia. From the Bayou, We Speak is a multilingual poetry and art project uplifting the voices and perspectives of Houston’s ESL students through creative expression. Students are invited to submit poems or artwork responding to themes such as identity, belonging, and imagining the world of tomorrow. Selected works will be professionally translated, published online alongside the original, and celebrated through a future in-person event. Submissions are free and accepted through June 1, 2026. |
