HAPIE Awards Reminder/Visioning Session Update |

Reminder: The final nomination deadline for the HAPIE Awards is quickly approaching on May 29.
As part of ALMAAHH’s ongoing efforts to help strengthen visibility and recognition for Houston’s Latino film and production community, we encourage artists, filmmakers, creatives, and community members to help uplift deserving individuals and projects through nominations.
The reminder comes as ALMAAHH continues conversations sparked during our recent Film Industry Visioning Session, where participants highlighted both the immense talent within Houston’s Latino film ecosystem and the need for stronger connections across education, funding, production, and audience development. The HAPIE Awards, presented in partnership with HTX Producers, are an opportunity to celebrate and recognize the incredible work already happening across Houston’s film and production industries.

“Rooted in Community” Mural Unveiling |

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us at Finca Tres Robles for this year’s Salsa de Mayo Festival and the unveiling of the 2026 Rooted in Community mural by Jatziri Barron. From the ribbon cutting ceremony to a full day of music, dance, food, art, and community gathering, the festival was a beautiful celebration of creativity, culture, and connection. Congratulations to Jatziri Barron on the completion and unveiling of the mural, and to Daniel Anguilu for the debut of the new Finca Tres Robles shirt design during the event. Thank you to all the organizers, artists, performers, vendors, volunteers, and community members who helped make the day so vibrant and meaningful. We’re grateful to everyone who came together to celebrate and support community-rooted creative spaces in Houston.
Un agradecimiento muy especial a todas las personas que nos acompa帽aron en Finca Tres Robles durante el Festival Salsa de Mayo de este a帽o y la inauguraci贸n del mural 2026 Rooted in Community de Jatziri Barron. This June 21, Houston will once again come alive with music as Make Music Day Houston celebrates the first day of summer with free performances happening across the city.
Led by Fresh Arts as part of an international celebration of music, the event invites musicians, community spaces, organizations, and audiences to connect through live music in parks, sidewalks, venues, and public spaces throughout Houston. Whether you’re a musician, venue, organization, or community member, there are many ways to take part in this citywide celebration of creativity and connection through music.

Brain Builders is continuing its free virtual meetups for parents and caregivers of children ages 0–3, expecting families, and families who are fostering or adopting young children. Designed to make support and connection more accessible from home, the online meetups provide opportunities for families to learn, connect, and build strong foundations for early childhood development and well-being. Programs are available in both English and Spanish, with online sessions running throughout May and June, as well as upcoming in-person gatherings this summer. From the Bayou, We Speak is a multilingual poetry and art project uplifting the voices and perspectives of Houston’s ESL students through creative expression. Students are invited to submit poems or artwork responding to themes such as identity, belonging, and imagining the world of tomorrow. Selected works will be professionally translated, published online alongside the original, and celebrated through a future in-person event. Submissions are free and accepted through June 1, 2026. |
