Native Organizers Alliance - Leadership and organizing training grounded in Indigenous values

Native Organizers Alliance Logo

Patricia,

We’re only one week out from our next big training.

One of the many ways we fulfill our purpose in Indian Country is building Native political power. Next week, from May 3rd to 5th more than 60 Tribal and Native community organizers, younger and older, will gather in Detroit to begin a journey of deepening relationships with grassroots people to assess and plan how we can resist, reclaim and rebuild our communities.

In Minneapolis, Mni Sota Makoce, we saw how tens of thousands of people in their neighborhoods self organized circles to care for and protect their neighbors. They took action in the traditional way Indigenous people have always relied on: organizing circles for care and safety.

From the 2017 encampment at Standing Rock to protect the Missouri River to the traditional Winter Counts of the Kiowa, Lakota, Dakita, Blackfeet and others of the 1600 - 1900’s, we have always gathered together to assess and tell the stories of the state of our communities in planning our next steps.

NOA is partnering with 15 tribes and community groups to do a 21st century “Winter Count” to know what the needs are, to identify opportunities in the political terrain, and further plan our next steps in organizing Native grassroots political power.

All of the participants will be trained on creating surveys and will return to their communities for a month of visiting with grassroots community members. The event provides participants with the experience of working together with other communities to be a part of a growing pro-democracy movement guided by the wisdom of our neighbors and community.

It’s hard work, but we also make sure it’s a lot of fun.

This work matters -- and it’s all made possible by the generous support of our supporters. Contribute $5 to deliver the resources we need to train, empower, and engage in this ground-breaking effort to restore traditional relational organizing in Indian Country.

The program offers tribes and community organizations the opportunity to expand the circle of people who will protect the organizing of community groups and Tribes while engaging in and developing the practices and structures to build self-governance and a new kind of democracy in the 21st century

Our purpose is to cultivate an ecosystem of grassroots leaders and organizers who prioritize community and nation building to protect our lands, waters, health, wellbeing, and ways of life.

These people will make a difference in every life they touch. Help us support Tribes and other organizations to build circles of support and engagement to weather the stormy political atmosphere with a contribution now.

Hawwih (thank you in Caddo) for everything you do in support of this work.
