Native Organizers Alliance - Tell the Senate: Reject ‘Sell-Off Steve’ to lead the Bureau of Land Management

Patricia,

Every acre of public land in the United States is Native land, where our ancestors have lived and cared for the land for thousands of years. But right now, the federal government could be on the verge of selling off hundreds of millions of acres of public land if the U.S. Senate confirms Donald Trump’s pick to lead the Bureau of Land Management.

Former Rep. Steve Pearce -- also known as ‘Sell-Off Steve’ -- had his nomination approved by the Senate Natural Resources Committee this week, and the full Senate could vote at any time.

As a U.S. representative, Pearce advocated for selling off federal lands and erasing national monuments in his quest to allow fossil fuel corporations to take over and destroy our public lands.

His own home state newspaper, the Santa Fe New Mexican, wrote:

“If the fox shouldn’t be appointed to guard the henhouse, Steve Pearce should not be in charge of the Bureau of Land Management…. Pearce does not support the ownership of land by the people.”

Send an urgent message to your U.S. Senators right now and urge them to vote NO on Steve Pearce’s nomination to lead the Bureau of Land Management.

Trump’s plan is to sell public lands for drilling and mining, and Pearce would accelerate that goal.

Pearce is a public-land denier and an oil-and-gas executive. He and Trump want to sell off vast tracts of public lands to private developers, fossil fuel corporations, and other special interests.

These lands, where national parks now exist, were forcibly stolen from us. They have also become part of how hundreds of thousands reconnect to the natural world and where wildlife can thrive.

Here at the Native Organizers Alliance Action Fund, we’re amplifying the facts about historical land theft. We are raising public awareness that all “public lands” are actually Indigenous homelands -- and that Tribes have the sovereign right to make decisions about their use. Our responsibility to all future generations is to fight the destruction of so-called public lands which are an essential part of protecting Mother Earth from destruction.

Click here to send an urgent message to your U.S. Senators urging them to vote no on Steve Pearce’s nomination to lead this critical agency.

The Bureau of Land Management is the largest land manager in the U.S. Handing hundreds of millions of acres of public lands over to one who openly denies the responsibility to protect the public lands from exploitation for profit would be catastrophic.

Hawwih (thank you in Caddo) for pushing the federal government to protect Mother Earth and respect the true Nation-to-Nation relationships that Tribes are owed.
