Native Organizers Alliance - Stop attempts to erase Two Spirit and trans people [sign on]

Native Organizers Alliance Action Fund Logo

Patricia,

Native peoples have recognized, honored, and protected Two Spirit people, who have often held sacred roles in many of our societies.

Today is Trans Day of Visibility, a time to honor Two Spirit and trans people. Respecting and protecting Two Spirit and trans people is a return to our original teachings -- and a vital part of re-Indigenizing society.

Now, we must defend our trans and Two Spirit relatives from escalating attacks.

Many lawmakers across the country are trying to erase trans and Two Spirit people from public life, including criminalizing their very existence. Since November 2024’s election, more than 400,000 trans people have had to move states for their safety.

Some states are definitely safer than others, and some state leaders have been taking pro-trans actions that have statewide and nationwide impacts.

For example, 19 attorneys general and one governor have so far blocked the Trump administration’s attempt to dramatically restrict medically necessary healthcare for trans youth.

Governors and state lawmakers can enforce and pass policies to protect trans people’s rights and access to lifesaving healthcare, identification documents, public spaces including bathrooms, and more.

Will you take action today to demand your governor and state legislators act now to protect Two Spirit and trans people’s lives and rights?

SIGN AND SEND

Around two-thirds of our Indigenous languages on Turtle Island have long had words to recognize and affirm the existence of more than two genders. Often they played special roles within our communities. We cannot allow our history nor our relatives today to be criminalized, vilified, or denied their human rights or their treaty right to healthcare.

We can’t let state and federal governments continue to dehumanize Two Spirit and trans people.

Experts at Genocide Watch and the Lemkin Institute for Genocidal Prevention are warning that growing anti-trans attacks are genocidal attempts to destroy 2SLGBTQ+ people. Some political leaders have openly called to eradicate our trans relatives.

We cannot let this happen! We must urgently speak up for Two Spirit and trans people.

Please sign and send a quick message to your state leaders to protect trans and Two Spirit people from repression -- and to build a society where everyone can be safe as their authentic selves.

Hawwih (thank you) for supporting our 2SLGBTQ+ relatives, upholding Indigenous values and human rights, and advocating for self-determination for all -- including sovereignty over our own bodies.

Together, we will continue caring for each other and building a world where all of our relatives and future generations can thrive in freedom.

Judith LeBlanc (Caddo)
Executive Director
