United We Dream - Our collective strength can restore what was lost.

In our ongoing series this month, we’ll explain, point by point, the threats DACA recipients are currently facing.

Let’s start with health care, specifically the Affordable Care Act. Last year, before the open enrollment period for ACA plans, a new federal rule took effect, barring DACA recipients from enrolling in ACA plans and in Basic Health Plans that the states of Minnesota, Oregon, and New York set up under the ACA.1

The result: 11,000 DACA recipients were kicked out of the ACA. The change was immediate because the rule didn’t just stop people from enrolling, it disenrolled people who were already covered.

Over 500,000 DACA recipients rely on job-based health insurance, so losing a job means immediate loss of coverage. With widespread renewal delays causing lapses in status, many are losing their jobs and their only access to care, at a time when families are already facing legal and economic uncertainty.

This is yet another challenge DACA recipients face, but we know that the power to initiate real change rests with us — the people. We know that the strength and resilience of our communities can create a future where we can all thrive.

Health care is a fundamental human right, and everyone should have access to it, regardless of their immigration status.

Through collective action, advocacy, and community support, we have the strength to push back against policies that undermine our shared values and to fight for the rights of all immigrants.

We will continue working to protect not only DACA recipients, but all immigrant youth who have not been able to take advantage of the policy, Bernardo. Will you stand with us with a contribution today?

Thank you for stepping up and joining us at such a crucial time. We’re here, we’re organizing, and we’re facing this moment together.
