Hey Bernardo,
Just last week, federal agents, pretending to be local police looking for a missing child, entered the residence hall of Elmina Aghayeva, a senior at Columbia University, and detained her. After students in NYC and around the country organized and mobilized, Elmina was released that same day. Unfortunately, Elmina’s story isn’t unique - we’re seeing more and more students and youth being targeted for detention and deportation.
But young people aren’t just standing by. From San Diego to Dallas to NYC, young people are standing united in making it clear that ICE has no place in our classrooms and communities. These acts of courage are what builds change. Our unity is what will keep us safe.
We have a right to safe spaces where we can learn and thrive. But, it’s impossible to focus on preparing for our future when ICE is taking our classmates, teachers, and loved ones away from us.
Will you join us at our “Students Belong in the Classroom: ICE Out of Our Communities” Call on Thursday, March 26, at 6:30 pm ET/ 5:30 pm CT to learn how we can stand up for ourselves and each other through peaceful protest, like walkouts? Join us for a safe space where you can come together with students across the country to connect, vent, and make sense of this moment together:
