Native Organizers Alliance - Join the campaign for Native voting rights. Tell Congress to reject gerrymandered maps.

Patricia,

Voting is our right. But that right is under attack.

There are two cases being considered by the U.S. Supreme Court that could result in the further gutting of the Voting Rights Act.

One concerns gerrymandered maps in Louisiana, which could lead to Louisiana losing both of its majority-Black congressional districts. The other concerns gerrymandered maps in North Dakota where the state legislature attempted to dilute the voting power of Native peoples in violation of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act.

The Supreme Court is now deciding whether impacted parties -- the Spirit Lake Tribe, the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa, and several individual voters -- are even legally allowed to bring this lawsuit in defense of their voting rights.

Both cases have implications far beyond the borders of Louisiana and North Dakota, impacting the voting rights of Native peoples and people of color in every state.

The Supreme Court already demonstrated its hostility toward voting rights when, in 2013, its 5-4 decision in Shelby County v. Holder opened the flood gates to state voter suppression tactics. Now, it appears poised to gut what remains of the Voting Rights Act.

But there is something we can do to defend the voting rights of communities of color. In the House and Senate, Rep. John Larson and Sen. Alex Padilla have introduced the Redistricting Reform Act, which would ban mid-decade redistricting efforts and require states to establish independent redistricting commissions, stopping states from gerrymandering its voting maps.

Demand Congress protect Native voting rights by passing the Redistricting Reform Act now.

SIGN & SEND

Here at Native Organizers Alliance Action Fund, we help Native voters overcome racist voter suppression, and we join in mobilizing majorities to defend everyone’s right to vote.

That's why we've joined the campaign demanding Congress pass the Redistricting Reform Act.

With your support, Indigenous peoples will continue to play our role in critical decisions affecting civil rights for all while protecting the natural world from destruction. But to do so, we must stop the erosion of our communities’ right to vote.

Send a message to Congress now urging immediate passage of the Redistricting Reform Act to protect the voting rights of Native peoples and all communities of color.

Hawwih (thank you) for joining us in the fight for a truly multi-racial democracy, where all of our communities can participate in the decisions that affect our lives.

At the heart of Tribal sovereignty is the ability to be part of the decisions affecting our communities and our territories. Building the movement for sovereignty and self-determination is a crucial part of building a more deeply democratic society for all.
