We are having as guest speaker Ms. Maria Tolentino this coming Sunday, April 21, 2024. I am including information, she provided, about JOLT and her bio.

 Director Programs- Maria Tolentino BIO

Maria Tolentino is the Director of Programs, leading a Texas state-wide

effort in Non- partisan Voter Registration, Voter Mobilization,

Community and Student Organizing and Leadership Development for

Jolt Initiative and Jolt Action. Maria has been serving in the role with

Jolt since 2019.

Maria is a Tejana, first-generation Mexican-American, embraces her

Chicana heritage with pride. Her roots trace back to migrant

farmworkers, and her upbringing reflects the resilience. Her family is

originally from Monterrey, Mexico and San Luis Postosi. Born and Raised

in San Antonio, Texas she currently resides in Houston, Texas for the last

22 years. With 16 years dedicated to the nonprofit sector, Maria

champions underserved communities, single-parent households, and

at-risk youth, striving to dismantle barriers and foster pathways to

employment and education.

Driven by firsthand encounters with the injustices plaguing Latino

communities and impassioned by political causes close to her heart,

Maria found her calling at Jolt. Her aspiration is to amplify voices of

empowerment and ignite a movement for positive transformation

within the Latino community.

Maria's vision extends beyond mere advocacy; she aims to inspire,

educate, and mobilize her community to wield their voting power as a

catalyst for change, while advocating fiercely for those disenfranchised

 

Jolt initiative is a 501c3 and Jolt Action is a 501c4 non-profit

organization that increases the civic participation of Latinos to build a

stronger democracy and ensure that everyone’s voice is heard with a

strong focus on young Latinos ages 16-32. . Jolt knows that our

democracy works best when everyone gets a seat at the table. That’s

why Jolt builds the leadership capacity of young Latinos to increase

their civic participation and mobilize their peers to action

Executive Director Diana Maldonado:   One of the major investments that result in lasting impact is the time we share with people and communities. The relational commitment upfront is essential if you want to make a lasting difference instead of the swift in and out pop ins with communities. For that reason, I am thrilled to announce our 2024 Arriba Las Mujeres event. Arriba Las Mujeres is designed to provide young Latinas with insights and substantive conversations on civic engagement, public speaking and issue-based advocacy, centered around issues impacting the Latino community- democracy, mental wellness and financial inclusion. After all, Latinas are trailblazing innovators and natural collaborators seeking ways not only to improve their lives but those around them.  Over the course of two Saturdays, the event will be offered as follows:  Day 1: Virtual via Zoom, Saturday, July 20, 2024, time TBD Day 2: In Person, Saturday, July 27, 2024, 5pm - 8 pm, featuring a Networking Session. DFW, Houston, and San Antonio locations are to be determined. Arriba Las Mujeres is more than just a leadership program; it's a movement aimed at building a network of civically engaged Latina women across Texas who will shape the future of our communities.
