LULAC - Moran Kicked Out of Meeting of Corporate Alliance

The Editor: The LULAC Corporate Alliance met yesterday and a representative of corporate America told Margaret Moran, who was trying to pass her self off as National President of LULAC, that the Corporate Alliance Board  wanted to get a report from her on how LULAC was spending money it was getting for corporations.  He wanted an accounting of the money that was used to pay for delegates to travel to the New York Convention, money that was spent on hotel accommodations, money that was used for registration and meals.  He told her that the Corporate Alliance did not recognize her as the National President of LULAC and told her to leave the meeting of the Corporate Alliance.  The corporate representative told Margaret Moran that he did want to hear the report of Brent Wilkes.

  1. Ms. Moran has had every opportunity to leave office gracefully, but has failed and refused to do so. Maggie Rivera, not Margaret Moran, won election to the office of LULAC National President at the National Convention. Moran was not even eligible to run for re-election, much less continue to serve as National President. She is termed out from continuing to serve as National President under the Constitution and ByLaws of LULAC. This type of scene harms our national mission. When this debacle is over, as it should be soon, we need to take steps to ensure that maverick elements never again are allowed to take over and manipulate our organization in a dictatorial manner. 2. As a Latina, I am disappointed that Ms. Moran continues to undermine the authority of a duly elected Latina LULAC President. This behavior is a detriment to our fight for equal treatment of women.

This is not the first time that our organization has had a disagreement over who will serve as our President. And yet, our organization has been able to conduct our business.

When we cannot conduct our business, everyone suffers, especially Latinas. I expect my leaders to consider the effect of their actions on the people they represent, and not their political legacy. I expect better than what is happening now.
