The Editor: This is another view of the delegate Assembly from the guest area of the Assembly Hall. The Assembly Hall was arranged into 6 sections fanning out from the from to the back. Maggie Rivera's people had orange t-shirts. Roger Rocha's people had white t-shirts. Maggie's delegates occupy two sections going from left to right as you look at the picture. They occupy 3/4 of section 3. There is a scattering of Rivera delegates among the Rocha delegates in sections 4 and 5. Rivera delegates occupy 1/2 of section 6. Rocha delegates occupy 1/4 of section 3. The Editor walked all the way around from the left of the balcony over to the right of the balcony as you see the picture layout and asked people that were seated around the balcony and asked, "Who has more delegates between orange and white?
Some of those questioned were Rivera supporters, being alternates or guests and some were Rocha supporters, either alternates or guests. All responded that the orange dominated the floor. This view puts the Rivera delegates to the 55% to 60% mark.
This picture represents the totality of the delegates on the floor. What is missing are the delegates on the dais, the members of the LULAC Executive Committee and the others who include former LULAC National Presidents and State Directors. The floor delegates were 1,561. The officers and former officers were 64. The total of delegates on the reading of the first credentials report was 1,625. Of this total number, the 1,625, a majority vote would need 813 votes to win. Four counters counted 825 delegates who stayed and continued to participate in the continuation of the convention for the election of officers.
