Mr. Escobar:  Please consider this request as a formal request from a National Board member for an opinion regarding Lulac entities receiving money from a political candidate to form new councils and participate in Lulac elections. In Texas, we have a candidate for the US Senate, Mr. David  Alameel, who has formed 39 councils in Ft Worth, Texas and is paying for their trip to our State Convention in Houston this week. He has reserved rooms and is bringing the delegates in buses.  We have cancelled checks where he paid for the dues and charter fees. It is my understanding that he has formed many councils in San Antonio and Puerto Rico. He is the   Democratic candidate and getting Lulac involved in his campaign. Article III,Section 6 of our Constitution  clearly states in our  Aims and Purposes is to “maintain the League free of all involvement in partisan politics as an organization”. We have filed a complaint with the Texas elections commission. What is your position on this matter? Mr. Wilkes is aware of our concerns as it may affect our 50c.4 and 501c3 status. The recent FBI investigation of Mr. Luis Vera was a result of similar actions. Please reply as soon as possible.
