Policy Statement by Hispanic Civic Organizations on the Treatment of
Immigrants by the Trump Administration
As representatives of Hispanic civic organizations across the United
States, we stand united in our deep concern and opposition to the Trump
administration’s policies and practices concerning the apprehension, detention,
and deportation of immigrants.
The United States has long been defined by its commitment to fairness,
dignity, and equal protection under the law. Yet, current enforcement
strategies have too often resulted in the violation of these principles—through
family separations, prolonged detentions in inhumane conditions, racial
profiling, and the denial of due process to vulnerable individuals seeking
refuge or lawful status.
We condemn:
- The criminalization of immigrants who contribute to the economic,
cultural, and social fabric of this nation.
- The indiscriminate enforcement
actions that target communities of color, instill fear in families, and
undermine public trust in law enforcement.
- The separation of children from
parents and the continued use of detention centers that fail to meet basic
humanitarian standards.
- The erosion of due process and
access to counsel for individuals facing deportation proceedings.
We call upon Congress, state governments, and local authorities to uphold
the highest standards of justice and human rights by:
- Ensuring transparency, oversight,
and accountability in immigration enforcement operations.
- Protecting the constitutional
rights of all individuals, regardless of immigration status.
- Supporting comprehensive
immigration reform that reflects our nation’s values of inclusion,
opportunity, and compassion.
We further urge all Americans to reject rhetoric that dehumanizes
immigrants and divides our communities. The pursuit of border security must
never come at the expense of human rights, nor should political expedience
justify cruelty.
As Hispanic civic organizations, we reaffirm our commitment to advocate
for policies that treat all people with dignity, protect families from needless
separation, and honor the immigrant story that defines America itself.
